Theatre Litomyšl

Baroque theatre Litomyšl of castle is part of castle´s arena of castle Litomyšl,which history dates back to the Middle Ages,where in the place of castle Litomyšl was border tower of gender Slavníkovci. About this tower is talking recorder Cosmas in his chronicle.


Buliding of castle´s theatre started in 1796 but in theatre started to play in 1798.Capacity of theatre was for 150 spectators.


Castle repertoire consisted mainly of French or German games designed specifically for theater Litomyšl Castle, where often performed directly count family members or their officials. The audience consisted of the nobility or urban guests count's family, who sat on the balconies of the theater, while the ground floor was designed for employees of Litomysl Castle. To this day 16 reports have been preserved theater scenes and two painted curtain to the theater, created by Josef Platzer. Other decoration was awarded to court painter Dominik Dvořák.
